[00:00:00] Adam Stott: Hey everybody and welcome back to another success interview. I’m really, really excited about this one, uh, because I’m with one of our wonderful clients, Darren from Dash Couriers, uh, who’s achieved some amazing things, uh, with his business, which is a business which is going from strength to strength. He has come to our branded retreat, spent three days with us here, him and his, uh, lovely wife.

[00:00:24] Shani are both members of Gold Circle. We’ve been working really closely. And this is a business that we really believe is going to achieve massive things. And it’s already achieving massive things. And Darren, we’ve given you the award for excellence because you know, you have, you’ve been working with us a fairly short period of time and made a hell of a lot of progress.

[00:00:44] And your implementation, your action taking, your business is just going from strength to strength. So, how are you feeling is the first thing I wanted to ask you. You feeling good? You enjoyed it?

[00:00:55] Darren Moore: I’m feeling good, yeah. The award, uh, we’re just really pleased to get the award. We’ve already got a couple under our belt, so, uh, this is just another recognition of the service standards that we’re providing.

[00:01:05] And we’re really pleased, yeah.

[00:01:07] Adam Stott: And that’s exactly why you got the award, is because We really evidence that those service standards are incredibly high. You care about your clients, you want to do a great job with them, where a lot of people in your industry are quite detached from the end result. I really see that in your business, that you’re really trying to deliver an amazing service, uh, which is really critical.

[00:01:26] And, and in building this business, there’s a lot of people that watch these interviews, and a lot of people that’ll be watching right now that have got ambitions to build a business. Uh, perhaps in there in a moment of struggle themselves, there may be experiencing some ups and downs. You’ve now gone through that.

[00:01:42] You’ve built a business which is a seven figure plus business. You’ve got ambitions to get to an eight figure business. You certainly will, you know, from what I’m saying, you know, and what are some of the struggles that you experienced? And what did you learn from those?

[00:01:55] Darren Moore: Um, I mean, we’ve been in business for, for a lifetime pretty much, but this particular business with three years in, uh, we have.

[00:02:03] Yeah, I mean, we’ve learned the industry from the ground up. Everything we do, we try and, uh, we try and learn the nuts and bolts of it. So, Shanie and I started off as van drivers because we wanted to get into logistics. So, we learned it from the ground up. We then got a contract. Um, we then had to lead teams, which we’d never had any experience in.

[00:02:22] So, there’s been lots of struggles along the way. Um, but yeah, we’ve overcome it one step at a time. And now we’re getting some support and it’s just flourishing.

[00:02:31] Adam Stott: Absolutely. And you said you had those struggles. Then of course, in order to keep leveling up, you’ve had to build a lot of skills. You mentioned leadership there, which is a skill which often I think people are not aware of and don’t necessarily practice.

[00:02:45] But what are some of those skills that you feel that you’ve built along the way that have helped you get the great results you’ve had?

[00:02:51] Darren Moore: Um, I mean, there’s so many different aspects, isn’t there, of business? Resilience is certainly one, you know, um, overcoming your fears and just taking the next step. Um, getting out of your comfort zone, um, you know, and taking those steps forward when you could find every excuse not to, but just stepping over that mark, believing yourself.

[00:03:14] Adam Stott: Um, how do, how would you, you, you’ve obviously done that and that’s why you’re the other side of it, right? There’s someone watching. How would they overcome those? Is there any tips that you could give to people from your experience, you would say, in terms of overcoming the fears?

[00:03:28] Darren Moore: It’s a difficult question.

[00:03:29] Adam Stott: I mean It is a very difficult question.

[00:03:30] Darren Moore: Because I mean, you know, if you’re a sole business person, you’ve got yourself and, you know, maybe your peers, but you’re the business person. The advantage that Shaney and I have is that we can kind of bounce off ideas off of each other. Um, we can support each other as well and that’s one thing that really helps us in business.

[00:03:51] Um, not everyone is a fan of family businesses, but it really works for us and we, we support each other in those decisions. So if we’re not sure about doing something. We’ll reassure each other and we’ll do it as a team, and that’s what gets us through.

[00:04:05] Adam Stott: Yeah. Building that team, that, that strong team’s been a great thing for you.

[00:04:08] Yeah. And look, you’ve had some great results. Why don’t you tell us a bit about the business, what the business does, and some of the results you’ve had?

[00:04:13] Darren Moore: So yeah, I mean, courier and logistics, we, we hit the ground running in the first month of lockdown. So when, when the whole world was shut down at home, we were out there delivering parcels as fast as we possibly could.

[00:04:26] We got our very first contract of Amazon, which we were delighted about, and that kind of. Gave us an instant business overnight. So we hit the ground on day one with thousands of parcels to deliver running the team, which was a really good start in the industry for us. And then since then we’ve grown it.

[00:04:44] We’ve added our own bits and pieces on. We’ve got new contracts with other national companies. Um, and we’ve grown our teams. We, you know, we operate a big fleet of vehicles now. We’ve got a great team of drivers behind us. We’ve promoted some of those drivers through the ranks to become our management team.

[00:05:04] So all of our managers know the business and they know the teams they’re leading right from the bottom. And that’s our ethos, is reward people, encourage them and bring them up through the ranks.

[00:05:16] Adam Stott: And you’ve done a great job of that. And, you know, for sure. And knowing you and getting to know you more, certainly while we’ve been here and, and knowing Shanie, who I’ve met a few more times, you know, your complimentary skills, it seems really that you do make a great team and, and you certainly gain places.

[00:05:32] And a lot of the time, I mean, we’ve, we’ve perhaps been working with you maybe for six months, maybe not even that long. Um, and you’ve achieved a lot of stuff, haven’t you? And, you know, how’s that been? Because you, you’re obviously a self starter. Yeah. As in you get stuff done yourself. What’s it been like to add some additional strategies on?

[00:05:50] How’s that, what kind of difference has that made to you?

[00:05:52] Darren Moore: I mean, we’ve kind of gone through a lot of our business life, you know, with very little support, very little outside support. And it’s only in recent months, since we’ve got involved with, with you guys and got some training and got some expertise and some advice, that that’s really pushed us into next level, getting us out of our comfort zone, making those extra decisions that it probably would have taken us a lot longer to make previously.

[00:06:20] So that’s really helped us to grow and flourish and just push ourselves, which we wouldn’t have done before.

[00:06:26] Adam Stott: And I always think, I always think, actually, I love, I love the way that you described that because I always think that What mentoring does is like, if you’ve got a really skilled person, they’re going to get there eventually because they’re good at what they do.

[00:06:39] But I think the mentoring can just speed it up and, you know, get you there a lot faster, which is, which is awesome. And now you, you know, you’ve been here, you’ve been here for three days. And I’ve got to say, you know, you’ve got a great business and we’ve seen evidence of that in the room because the media is covering you.

[00:06:56] You’ve got published in Business Insider, which I was really excited about. You got published in multiple different articles. Um, how did that feel and you know, what’s that, what’s it been like?

[00:07:07] Darren Moore: You know, it’s incredible. I mean, yeah, this is, you know, this is what we’re, we’re kind of, we’ve asked for, for some guidance from, from you guys.

[00:07:15] And. The, the results are there for everyone to see, you know, what, what’s amazing is how with the right guidance and the right support, how you can get results so quickly, um, because it’s just executed, you know, you can spend months or years even in the planning, but if you’re not going to get out there and execute it or if you haven’t got the right help to execute it, it’s never going to get done.

[00:07:38] So this really has been an eye opener for us and it’s got us some amazing results in a really short space of time.

[00:07:44] Adam Stott: Yeah, brilliant. And we’ve, we love having you being a part of it. You know, great business, great people, great enthusiasm with a really good understanding of business and look for people watching.

[00:07:55] Um, how would they get in touch with you? How could they learn a bit more about your business?

[00:07:59] Darren Moore: Um, um, easiest way is online, um, on the website dash couriers dot co dot UK. We’re also just about to launch our parcel delivery service as well, which is electric vehicles. Um, Sustainable delivery, customer service is the real focus.

[00:08:15] Um, so yeah, through the website.

[00:08:17] Adam Stott: So anybody could use you to deliver their parcels? Absolutely, yeah. Businesses and individuals, right?

[00:08:21] Darren Moore: Yeah, the whole lot.

[00:08:22] Adam Stott: Yeah, awesome. And look, you know, I think it’s been, like I said, it’s been an amazing experience over the three days. It’s been really nice to get to know you both better.

[00:08:32] And see where this business is going. How are you seeing the future now? What does that look like to you? Are you more ambitious? You’re more motivated? Absolutely.

[00:08:40] Darren Moore: Yeah. I mean, the future for us, we, you know, we’ve made so many plans in, in very recent months that, that. being executed, but our future now is into growing our own network of delivery.

[00:08:53] Uh, it’s in sustainable, it’s in customer service. There’s some real negatives at the minute about customer service in our industry. Uh, and that is our absolute focus. So into next year, uh, we’re all about expanding the network and bringing more people in and giving more people opportunities to grow with us.

[00:09:11] Adam Stott: Yeah, which is awesome. Uh, finally, for any business owner watching, what tips could you give them on how to overcome fear or change a belief that they might have? Was there a belief you had that didn’t serve you that you now have? Or was there a fear that you had that didn’t serve you that you’ve changed?

[00:09:27] I’d love to just hear from someone that’s built a multi seven figure business that’s succeeding, that takes action. I think it’d be really good for you to pass on just a little tidbit of knowledge for, for anyone that might be watching.

[00:09:38] Darren Moore: I think really just a couple of points is just to believe in yourself, have, have that confidence in yourself and do not be afraid to ask for some advice and some guidance and just get out there and talk to as many people as you can, make as many connections as you can, uh, build those relationships with people because, you know, you don’t know when you can call on them, but you will benefit the more people you can speak to, uh, and just believe in yourself.

[00:10:05] Adam Stott: Brilliant. Well, look, I want to say a big thank you for being here with us. Uh, really enjoyed your company. Uh, you know, a big well done on your business is certainly going places. The sky’s the limit and I really look forward to seeing what you’re able to accomplish. So thanks again, Darren. Thanks a lot.

[00:10:18] You’ve been amazing. Thank you. Thank you.
