[00:00:00] Imposter syndrome Because I’m a bookkeeper, not an accountant Lack of focus Expanding my reach and being known as an industry leader, getting partnerships and guest appearances. Getting too distracted. If you’re doing three things at once, you’re not giving your focus to the one thing that’s actually gonna make the money.

[00:00:18] Today, I work with Bobby. Her day-to-day business is a bookkeeping business, but she’s fallen out of love with bookkeeping. Don’t actually enjoy doing the bookkeeping itself. That- So you’re a bookkeeper that hates bookkeeping? This is gonna be the challenge everyone today. We are going to build a blended business model-

[00:00:36] that combines speaking, appearances, with a bookkeeping business that delivers a service and build her business past £20,000 a month. Are you an accountant? No, I’m a financial coach. Yes. Let’s go. So I’m Bobby, financial empowerment coach, multi-award winning bookkeeper, and owner of Wonderfully Balanced. We take business [00:01:00] owners from being confused about their finances and give them the clarity and structure to grow and scale their business.

[00:01:08] My family are the biggest drivers for the business. I don’t really enjoy doing the bookkeeping itself, but because of the education that I have and the lack of education that so many of us had at school, that is what’s driving me to help business owners. Mm. This is you on stage with me. Yeah. So you won our A Player of the Month.

[00:01:27] I see you’re holding that award up, which is gr- With pride. Where is the business now? What’s happening? When I started with you, I had only four clients. I now have 18, and 12 of them- Brilliant … are part of my monthly recurring revenue. I have a team member that’s doing the client work. I’m getting more visible, getting more known, winning more awards, and recognized.

[00:01:49] Like, looking ahead, looking forward, what’s the plan? In the next 12 months, have increased my monthly recurring revenue to £20,000 a month, which means about average [00:02:00] of, uh, five clients per month on the starter package, and then to launch my course and make 5K per month course sales. And then expanding my reach and being known as an industry leader and getting partnerships and guest appearances, things like that.

[00:02:18] Why do you want this? Is, is, is this to serve the courses, to serve the bookkeeping, or is it more for fun? Yeah, more for fun because I don’t actually enjoy doing the bookkeeping itself. That- So you’re a bookkeeper that hates bookkeeping? Now tell me what do you think stopped you from being able to do this so far?

[00:02:35] Imposter syndrome, huge one for me, because I’m a bookkeeper and not an accountant, really holds me back. Um- How much do you think that holds you back? A lot. For everybody that’s watching at home, this is not uncommon. Imposter syndrome, saying, “Well, because I’m not an accountant, no one wants to listen to me.”

[00:02:51] That isn’t actually the case. That’s actually something that’s your belief. It’s not your client’s belief. Basically, it’s gonna be very simple. You’ve got a marketing- Yep … and a sales [00:03:00] problem. Yep. Absolutely. You ain’t speaking to enough people. Yep. No. You’re not making enough offers. Mm. And you’ve been telling yourself a reason for that.

[00:03:07] Mm. You’ve overcome those reasons. You’re ready to go. Yep. I also think there’s a huge challenge here with distractions. Yeah. It’s hard enough to start one business- Mm … let alone two or three. Mm. And if you’re doing three things at once, you are dividing your money, your time, and your skills into all these different things.

[00:03:25] You’re not giving your focus to the one thing that’s actually gonna make the money. Yep. So I’m gonna ask you a different question now. What do you really want? And don’t give me the answer you think I wanna hear. It’s the answer that you want. Speaking and coaching. Okay. Well, that saved us a lot of time, because we were about to build a bookkeeping business.

[00:03:41] Yeah. Do you know what I mean? And you don’t even wanna do it. But I don’t wanna let go of it. You mean you don’t wanna… Okay. Right. So we’re actually getting to, getting to the core of it. Can you afford to put your focus into this? How badly would that affect the bookkeeping business if you did? Time-wise, I can.

[00:03:58] Monetary-wise, I need to make [00:04:00] the bookkeeping business work. Okay. Yeah. So you need to make the money, yeah? Mm-hmm. So you’ve got a dream you wanna chase. Yes. Yeah. But you’ve also got a responsibility and a business that you need to build to help you actually get to the end of the rainbow. Yeah. Are you willing to give that your focus over the next six months, yeah?

[00:04:16] Yeah. Uh, but I feel like, like maths-wise, I can work that out. It is just now doing the marketing. Okay. And the o- And, and the thing is, if you, you can blend these. It’s just the courses bit is not- Yeah … gonna blend that well. Okay. I’ll tell you what we’ll do. This is gonna be the challenge everyone today. We are going to build a blended business model-

[00:04:36] that combines speaking, appearances, with a bookkeeping business that delivers a service. You wanna become the world’s best bookkeeper speaker- … and you help people with financial education. Does that sound good? Yeah. Right. Let’s swap over. Let’s go. Okay, Bobbi, so tell me a little bit about your offer, ’cause what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna look at how do we get to that target- Mm-hmm

[00:04:56] of £20,000 a month, but combine the speaking, [00:05:00] presenting, podcasting- Yeah … and all that fun jazz that you are yearning for. We’re gonna look at that as well, right? But I spend £297 with you, what happens? I’m a business owner. Tell me the outcome rather than the process. To- What am I actually getting? You get everything done for you and at the end of the mo- what you’ve made and what you’ve spent and what you’ve earned.

[00:05:18] Okay. If it all- So don’t, don’t lift a finger. Yeah. Bookkeeping done. Yeah. And that’s 2-9-7 a month, so that’s a small offer, yeah? Yeah. Who’s the highest paying client you got? Don’t have to tell me the client, but what’s the price? 1,200. So you’re, so someone’s paying you 1,200 a month- Yeah … for bookkeeping.

[00:05:32] What’s the turnover of that business? Over one mil. So at the moment all your business is under a million pounds? Yeah. What you’re really looking for is simple, repeatable pricing models where you’re just gonna bring somebody in, and the people that come in, they’re gonna go onto this price point, then they’re going to go to this price point, then they’re gonna go to this price point.

[00:05:49] So it’s very simple. It’s very easy. If you’ve got a client or a customer and they comes to you and you can’t give them a price ’cause you’ve got to work it all out in your head, it means that you haven’t got a [00:06:00] simple, repeatable pricing model, and this means you can’t scale your business. Because if you have to step out the business, your head’s no longer there, no one can come up with a price.

[00:06:09] So this is what happens, is you get end up being very, very stuck. So what you need to do is you need to build a client journey, and that client journey just needs to have a simple pricing model where you can just repeat the same thing over and over and over again. Imagine you went into Nando’s and you said, “I’ll have a half chicken.”

[00:06:23] They said, “Right, let’s just measure this half chicken. We’ll figure out the price for you.” There’s gonna be some of the half chickens are bigger than some of the other half chickens. They don’t really care about this person’s had a bit of a bigger half chicken than this one that’s had a little bit smaller.

[00:06:35] It’s the same price. Are you getting this? You understand that? If you are, just put in the comments, “I get it.” Because what do they do? You go into Nando’s, and they just repeat the same process over and over again. And you might argue, yeah, but this is a service-based business. It’s exactly the same thing with a service.

[00:06:48] You might do a little bit more work for client one over client two, but client two’s work balances out client one, and then you move forward, and that’s why you have your extra tiers, so you can take the person to a nice next pricing [00:07:00] tier and so on. So the first thing we need to do is we need to bring people into our funnel, and this means we have to invest our time to build a relationship so they wanna work with you.

[00:07:10] We’re gonna come back to this in a minute, ’cause I think this is missing. After we’ve done that, this is where you can have your entry level tier, which is your £297. And if you look at the funnel, why is it wider here? The reason it’s wider here is we have a lot of people on this lower tier, and then we’re gonna have less people on the next tier.

[00:07:26] So then we wanna have another tier. We can have a £497, and then we want our bigger tiers to be much more expensive, so we’ll have a £997. Bobby wants to earn £20,000 a month. At the moment, she’s, her tiers are a little bit all over the place. If we were to put these three tiers in place and she were able to get 20 people on this tier, right?

[00:07:47] What’s she got? She got £6,000 a month coming in. If she were to get 20 people on this tier, we now got £10,000 a month coming in, so it’s 16. And if we were to get five people coming [00:08:00] in here, we would make £5,000 a month. What have we now got? We’ve got £21,000, and we’ve achieved the goal, and we’ve achieved the target of where we wanna be.

[00:08:09] Now, what I would argue is that you’re gonna end up, this is a lot of work For bookkeeping clients, it’s a lot of business, a lot of people to see to get the money. Mm. So where this would be much more sensible is if our entry tier potentially went up a little bit- … and we made this £497, we made this £997, and we made this £1497.

[00:08:30] Now, look at the impact here. What we just saw is we needed 55 clients to get to £21,000 a month. Let’s take it and see what we need to get to the same amount of money with a different pricing. So what’ve we got? We’ve got 45 clients on the first pricing model equals £21,000 a month, right? Now, let’s say we get 10 clients here, that’s 5K a month.

[00:08:52] We get 10 clients here, that’s 10K a month, so we’re on 15. And we get three clients here, and that [00:09:00] means we’re essentially four and a half. So what we’ve got, we’ve got 15… We’re basically at 20 grand. We’re only dealing with 18 customers rather than dealing with 45. Same amount of money, third of the work.

[00:09:14] And this is the problem. Everybody tries to go, like, low price, volume, and then rather than actually understanding, well, we could go a bit of a higher price, we can get less volume. So the question I always ask people, which is, and I’m asking you right now for everyone at home, and you can put it in the comments, do you want to earn more money and work less hours?

[00:09:34] If you do, put I do. Go and put that in the comments right now. If that’s the case, your pricing is either gonna keep you captive and hold you hostage to a business, or your pricing is gonna actually set you free and give you the freedom that you want. Mm. I’ll ask you now, Bobby. Do you want 45 clients or 18?

[00:09:55] 18. You want 18. Well, that’s why your pricing needs to go up. Mm. So this is the other thing [00:10:00] now. This becomes much more scalable. And it makes it much easier because we can spend more money. ‘Cause if everybody coming in spends £6,000 a year with you, you’ve got a much better business model, you’ve got a b- much better pricing model.

[00:10:12] Yeah. I actually don’t even think that’s expensive for a bookkeeper. When you change the prices, team, there’s something that’s really important has to happen. You have to change the person you’re gonna serve. Yeah, yeah. That’ll be expensive for pre- pre-VAT businesses. Yes. They’ll be like, “What? £500 a month?”

[00:10:27] Because they think everything’s expensive. Right? Yeah. So what you need to do is you need to get your tiers to be more appropriate for the right people coming in. So let’s look at it now. Let’s redraw this. Yep. And let’s look at your offers, right? Gotta have our, our free offer here to bring people in.

[00:10:45] We’ve got a 497 package, we’ve got a 997 package, and then we’ve got a 1,497 package, and then we’re gonna have to have something that goes out and brings people into our world. That’s the next step. Mm. Your 297, [00:11:00] if for the right client, is it worth more? Yeah. Someone’s got a £150,000 business- Mm … is it worth them paying £500 a month to get- Yeah

[00:11:07] turnkey bookkeeping? Yeah. Great. Yeah. So zero to £150,000- Yeah … 497 a month. Okay? If somebody don’t wanna do business with you because they think £500 too expensive, they’re probably not the right client for you anyway. Yeah. Now, the people you’ve currently got, the ones that you’re already dealing with, you can leave them where they are, you keep serving them ’cause you need that money.

[00:11:26] Yeah. But it’s the people that you’re gonna bring in- Yeah … you’re gonna charge more money. So this can be 150, yeah? Yeah. £150,000 to a million pound businesses. Grand a month, that’s very sensible. Mm-hmm. Most people will be fine with that if you’re gonna do all the bookkeeping. What you could do, ’cause this is where we wanted a hybrid and we wanted to bring in the speaking and presenting, is this offer can include some financial coaching sessions.

[00:11:50] Yeah. How many sessions do you wanna do with them, one a month here? Yeah. Okay. So we do one a month. So what you’ll do is you’ll be the financial coach. Every single month you’re gonna do all their bookkeeping, you’re gonna meet up with them, [00:12:00] you’re gonna give them the recommendations of what they can do to grow their business, grow their marketing, you know, start to get their business different results.

[00:12:06] And now this includes bookkeeping done for you and coaching. Yeah. But this can be where you do two financial coaching sessions a month, and you become the financial coach of the business as well. And if they are a business that’s doing half a million plus, that’s a really sensible offer. Mm. Now, what’s the game plan for 20 K a month?

[00:12:26] 10? Five, three. We’ve got 5,000 pounds here, so you got the 10, and then we’ve got, what, 4.5 thousand here. So what we got? We’ve got 10, 14.5, plus the four and a half you’re already doing. I think it was four, five and a half, whatever it is. Mm-hmm. That gets you to 20K a month. Yeah. So how good a speaker are you now?

[00:12:49] You tell me. Would you go up in front of any audience, let’s say- Yeah … um, and give a talk on business finances and sh- give people business financial tips? Yeah. So we’ve got two choices. You wanna do [00:13:00] that. That’s what you wanna do. That’s what’ll make you happy. Yeah. So look, we either offer bookkeeping or bookkeeping and financial coaching.

[00:13:05] Yeah. The offer’s really clear. I’m the financial coach of your business, plus we do the work for you. Mm. It’s actually a really lovely offer. Now we’ve gotta decide how you’re gonna market this business. Mm. One is we use ads. The benefit of using ads, you build the ads, you deploy the ads, you get going.

[00:13:19] It’s gonna take you no time, but you’re gonna have to spend money. So you’re gonna have to invest before you’ve even got this revenue to start driving this revenue and bring people in. The other option is literally getting out and doing more speaking, and you basically just target people that are running events- Mm

[00:13:34] and you do it to go and get leads for your business. Whatever one you do, you have to do enough of a velocity of it to make it work, one way or the other. Don’t matter, they both work. Mm. But you have to do a velocity. Yeah. You run one ad for one week- … you can kiss goodbye to everything we said. It’s not gonna happen.

[00:13:52] It’s y- Yeah … you have to go at it with, “I am running ads to get clients for the long term. I’m gonna invest a sizable amount of money to create the result, [00:14:00] and I’m gonna keep testing the ads till I get a breakthrough.” Mm. This is why most people fail with ads. They run one ad, cross their fingers, say, “I hope it works.”

[00:14:07] Mm. It doesn’t work, they give up. Happens over and over and over again. That isn’t it. The way it is is, like, “I am going to run ads to book calls.” You know, you just go out and you build ads. “Are you a business owner that’s finding managing your finances is super stressful? You need somebody to help you out.

[00:14:21] You don’t really know where to turn. You feel like your accountant doesn’t help you, and you need either a financial coach or you wanna get stuff done for you in your business. If you wanna understand your finances better, I’ve got a three 30-minute financial audit where you can come on. You can spend time with me.”

[00:14:36] “I’ll look at exactly what you need to do, and then potentially we can end up working together.” We’re gonna build a video sales letter, which we’re just gonna record a message. We’re gonna put it into a funnel. We’re gonna take it out to market with ads. We’re gonna get people to book calls. That’s all it is, is a video sales letter.

[00:14:50] It’s you in video talking to someone about why they should do your thing. It’ll cost you about 150 to book a call. Let’s say you book 10 a week, so that’s a [00:15:00] 1,500 pound a week marketing budget. And if you book 10 calls, you might speak to three that are suitable for this, three that are suitable for this, and three that are suitable for this.

[00:15:09] So you’ve got different people, and then you’ll obviously get some random calls as well. Now, off the back of that, you might sell one here, you might sell one here, and you might sell none here. So you spend your £1,500, you get one contract for £500 a month, you get one contract for a grand a month. Yeah.

[00:15:26] What have you made? You’ve made 18 grand from your 1,500 investment. Yeah. So what do you wanna do about the speaking, though? I, I… Yeah You don’t wanna then get distracted and go, “I’m not doing the speaking.” Can I do both? Great question, right? I feel like the speaking- Obviously, you’re a business owner, you do whatever you want.

[00:15:38] So what’s gonna happen is, you’re gonna be running the ads. You’re gonna go, “I’ve got a speaking gig over there.” You’re gonna run over, you’re gonna do your speaking gig. You’re gonna really love it, enjoy it. Then you get another speaking gig. You run over, enjoy that. Then you don’t get any more speaking gigs for three weeks, and then you’re back and looking at the ads, and then you forgot why you’re looking at them, and then you’re confused again.

[00:15:56] Then you’re going, “Oh, my God. I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m overwhelmed.” I really [00:16:00] strongly believe am- that business owners should get focused on one thing and do it well. And then when that’s well, and then when you’re making 20 grand a month- Mm … you can do whatever you want. Okay. You know, then you go and do as many speaking gigs and run around or whatever, ’cause you’ve got all those clients on retainers, and the money’s coming in.

[00:16:17] But the job ain’t finished yet, and that’s the problem. You could either do that with ads, and that is option one. Or option two is you forget the ads and you do the speaking. So let’s say you were gonna forget the ads and do the speaking. What would you do? You’d be getting in contact with 50-plus people every week.

[00:16:35] That’s gonna cost you nothing, but it’s gonna cost you a lot of time. Now, this is the reason you can’t do both. In order for anyone to be successful at anything, you’ve got three resources. You’ve got your money, you’ve got your time, and you’ve got your skills. In order for you to be successful, these need to go into your business model.

[00:16:53] They need to be inputted to create an output. If you go, “All right, but I’m only gonna put this in my [00:17:00] business model and this in my business model and this in my business model,” your business model doesn’t have the nutrients it needs to succeed and grow. Because you’re splitting it, ’cause you’re going, “Well, I’m over here speaking, so you know, I can’t really look at this,” and, “Oh, yeah, but I’ve got this going on ’cause I’m dealing with this client,” and- Mm

[00:17:15] “Oh, yeah, no, I’ve spent my money on this.” So you have to take all your available resources and you have to invest it into success. That is the strategy. It will work, but you have to choose. What do you want? I don’t know. You don’t know? Now, I know you don’t know. But if you did know- … which one would you want?

[00:17:35] Ads. So you do know. Okay. Hang on. Come here. Take that pen, cross that out. And we’re not gonna talk about it for six months. For six months? You can, you can build your skill on that- Yeah … but you ain’t do- you ain’t doing it until you’re making 20 grand a month, so cross it out. Cross it out like you mean it, like anger.

[00:17:57] Bye. [00:18:00] Okay, come and grab a seat. All right, well done. Okay. You’ve crossed this out now. Yeah. This is a skill you’re building on the side- Yeah … for your long-term future- Okay. Yeah … ’cause I, ’cause I know you’re doing that. Yeah. What you’re gonna do right now is you’re gonna focus. Right. You’re gonna go and build some ads.

[00:18:15] Yeah. So this is your action plan, is you’ve got to build, define product range. Sorry. Yeah, that’s all right. In that, would I include the accounts or make accounts an add-on? Well, this is what you’re gonna define in your product range. Yeah. You’re gonna decide. For me, this offer is a standard, cheap bookkeeping offer.

[00:18:34] Okay. You don’t need to be doing loads for 500 pound a month. You just need to get the right businesses on, people like you. You do the bookkeeping. It’s simple, no messing around. Yeah. This one is for your confused business owner that wants you as their financial coach. Yeah. So this is the offer for bookkeeping.

[00:18:50] Yeah. This is the offer for bookkeeping plus financial coach. Mm-hmm. And this offer is bookkeeping plus more financial coach. Yeah. If you wanna throw accounting in in here, [00:19:00] you can do that, but I would just go financial coach. Okay. That way you’re not competing against their accountant. Yeah. So this… And then, and that way you…

[00:19:07] “Are you an accountant?” “No, I’m a financial coach.” Yes. Yeah. Make sense? Yeah. So now you overcome the objection. So these are your offers. You keep your offers simple. You then run ads. Okay? So what you gotta do- Is this is the sub one of this, is you’re gonna have to test 10 ads. And the way that you test these ads is you want some ads to their pain points.

[00:19:30] Make sure your call-out ads are calling out the right people. I would also try some local ads, some geo ads. You wanna try a couple of ads here based around their pain points. Are you a business owner that just feels like their finances are chaos? You don’t know whether you’re coming or going. You haven’t got it under control.

[00:19:51] You’ve probably had a bookkeeper in, but you don’t really know what they’re doing. They’re not communicating with you. Maybe you’ve got an accountant that never answers the phone to you, doesn’t help you. That’s a [00:20:00] pain point. Yeah. Then you run another ad. There’s another pain point. Are you currently a business owner that’s just keeping track of all their finances?

[00:20:07] You don’t know who to trust, you don’t know what to do. Yeah. Or are you a business owner that’s running out of time? Here, the important thing is you’re targeting business owners. You’re not targeting startups. Yeah. You’re targeting business owners. Mm-hmm. You’ve got an existing business. Mm-hmm. I also think we should try some testimonial ads.

[00:20:23] So, “Hey, I’m working with this business right now. This is what I’ve helped them to do. If you want to do the same, book a call.” And then geo is business owners in Nottingham, ’cause that’s where you’re from, right? Yep. They’re the ads that you’re gonna run. Number three, we’re aiming for 150 per call for a 30% conversion into your packages.

[00:20:45] I mean, you can start with 10 calls a month, three new clients. Mm-hmm. Right, per month. Then when you’ve got the model down, you move from monthly to weekly. Okay. And you run the same play. Yep. Okay. And fourth, we wanna get this all done in the next 30 [00:21:00] days. And then fifth is you cannot and are not allowed to get distracted.

[00:21:06] No new ideas. You just focus. This is your action plan. You’re not allowed to do anything except focus on this business. And by the way, when I say that, right, the way you do this is like what I did with the speaking, because there’s probably a lot of you that are watching that are business owners. Maybe you get confused, maybe you lack focus sometimes, or maybe you go all over the place.

[00:21:28] That’s fine, right? All you have to do for some is you say, “Look, I can’t do this for the next 60 days because I’ve gotta focus. But in two months’ time, I’m happy to have a conversation with you about this.” You might get a great opportunity and ring up and say, like- Mm … “Do you wanna speak at this different thing?”

[00:21:44] And you go, “Well, look, I’ve got this to do for the next 60 days.” Mm. “And then I’ll be very open to doing that in 60 days from now.” Yeah. And that way you’re just gonna focus, bang, bang, bang. Get this all done, get your business working, get yourself making money, and then off you go. Is there anything you can’t do [00:22:00] there?

[00:22:00] Nope. Is there anything you’re worried about? Is there anything you’re not sure about? No. Do you feel motivated and ready? I feel clear. Yeah. And I know what I need to do. Is there anything gonna stop you doing it? Because I have been so confused. Yeah. And why do you think you’ve been confused? You’ve been bouncing around everywhere.

[00:22:14] Yeah, just going round everything. This is all you do. Yeah. You don’t… We’re not… If I speak to you in 30 days, all I wanna see is ads, product range, and I want you to be booking calls. Okay. That’s all I want. I don’t need to do anything else. That is gonna get you the result, and then we move on from there.

[00:22:28] Yeah. Thank you. Give us a hug then. Well done. Super job, Bobby. Thank you very much. No worries. Brilliant. All right?
